A complete DIY service kit for the Evo X and Ralliart SST (DCT470) dual-clutch gearbox — everything you need for the single most effective piece of preventative maintenance these transmissions can get. Dual-clutch boxes, and the SST in particular, are highly sensitive to dirty or incorrect oil, and Mitsubishi's original 80,000km service interval has proven far too long, routinely leading to clogged internal filters and damaged components. The pack contains 5.5 litres of OEM-spec SST fluid (Diaqueen SSTF-1 / Castrol Transmax Dual / BOT341) — enough to replace all oil drained from the gearbox and cooler — plus an OEM-spec paper external filter and its housing. We recommend servicing every 15,000km for daily drivers and 10,000km for track use.
Servicing your SST is the best preventative maintenance you can perform to prolong the life of the gearbox. Dual clutch gearboxes (specifically the SST) are highly sensitive to dirty, or incorrect oil. Mitsubishi's initial service interval for these gearboxes of 80,000kms has been found to be significantly too long, often resulting in blocked internal filters and damaged gearbox components.
What the service package contains:
- 5.5L of OEM-spec SST oil (BOT341/Castrol Transmax Dual/Diaqueen SSTF-1), enough to replace all oil drained from the gearbox and oil cooler.
- An OEM-spec paper external oil filter, including the plastic housing.
- Post-service support of a Teach-in (if required) // Wellington/NZ region only
Recommended Service Interval:
Daily Driver: 15,000kms
Track Use: 10,000kms
Why use OEM-spec oil?
Using the correct gearbox oil is cheap insurance to prevent gearbox damage. The SST is particularly sensitive to aftermarket oils, with very limited success being found. The community has found notable performance/reliability issues on gearboxes with incorrect/alternative oils being used, including clutch slip, synchro failure, valve-body issues, and early failure of internal gearbox seals. The only widely-accepted SST oils are Diaqueen SSTF-1 (OEM), Castrol Transmax Dual (OEM-spec), BOT341 (Castrol Rename of Transmax Dual).
What is a Teach In? Do I need one?
A Teach In is a calibration process performed on the SST gearbox which tells the car what the physical condition of the gearbox is - from clutch wear, to shift-fork positions. The SST has self-learning capabilities which effectively do the same thing as a teach in over time (to accommodate for clutch wear). However, a dramatic change in the physical condition of the gearbox (i.e, a service) may impact the gearbox's performance following a service. A teach in is not
required but is
recommended post a service. An important note - a Teach In is not a fix for gearbox component failure. If your shift forks are failing, synchro's are worn, or internal pistons are leaking, a teach in will not solve these issues. Please ensure you note any SST error codes pre-service and teach in, as usually these are early indicators of a larger failure which a teach-in may mask.
